Nestled at the Gateway to the Gila National Forest in the southwest corner of New Mexico, the Silver City/Grant County area is a dynamic and growing art community with a character all its own. Visit us and enjoy the fine selection of Southwestern, contemporary and Native American art in a variety of media and styles. Over 400 artists and about 40 galleries and studios make this area a highly energized art community.
San Vicente Artists of Silver City (SVA) was formed by area
artists about 15 years ago for promoting visual arts in southwestern New
Mexico. Before the ranching and mining
days, Silver City was known as La Cienega de San Vicente (the Marsh of St.
Vicente). Thus, local artists adopted the name of San Vicente. The area is also one of NewMexico’s oldest art communities. More
than a thousand years ago‚ Mimbreno people flourished and produced their
world-renowned pottery designs in the Silver City area. More recently‚ Silver
City and surrounding Grant County have become attractive to artists searching
for breathing room in today’s art world. |
